1971 Datsun 240Z presented in its original racing green [paint code 907] with contrasting tan interior trim. The car carries chassis number HLS30-28461. The car has had just 1 California owner from new and was used very sparingly from new until 1984 at which point it developed an overheating problem & unused since, the car was stored inside and has been superbly preserved, the vast majority of the paintwork on the car is the factory original, yes to be clear the car has never been repainted or subject of accident damage, it is the best original unrestored 240z we have ever seen in over 40 years of involvement. The car is almost more impressive underneath than on top, it has not been under-sealed and still has factory paint on the underside and suspension parts including the factory paint marking check on many nuts bolts on the suspension parts.
The California number plates in supplying dealer frame as still with the car showing its last tax ran out in 1985. The wheels [with very old tyres] are original dealer supplied optional alloys fitted from new. As one would hope and expect, tool kit, wheel chocks and spare wheel are all present as well as the original factory radio and aerial.
I purchased the car via my agent in California in 2015 from the family of the original owner and have had it since then. The condition of the car then is much the same as it still now is, we have done very little work on it and has simply enjoyed looking at and showing it to people, I considered it to be quite unique and certainly "keeper quality". We decided to get the car running and removed the cylinder head to inspect the head gasket, the head was checked for warp [it was still flat] we fitted a new standard piston rings and a head gasket [bores and crank were excellent] new hoses and filters, we had the radiator checked which revealed the original overheating problem [a crack in the core] so the radiator has had a new core fitted, the car now starts and sounds lovely. In 2018 we decided to register the car in the UK so at this point we fitted new brake cylinders and seals as well as flexible braked hoses [genuine parts where possible] , some suspension bushes were also fitted however we went to great efforts to keep it as original and untouched as possible. The car was UK registered and issued with an age related period number plate.
The interior of the car is very original baring for the seat covers which we replaced in 2018 simply because the stitching had become brittle on the originals and every time they were sat in they pulled apart at the seams, we still have the originals to demonstrate how little wear they had suffered.
For a factory original unrestored 240z I think you would find it extremely difficult to find a better example, as they say "they are only original once" ! If the car was going to be used on the road we would advise new shock absorbers and possibly various other rubber parts to be replaced obviously including tyres, the car would also require some form of rust protection on the underside, our aim was simply to be able to move the car around our premises and display it. Please study the photos in detail, the photos show it as it really is, it's unique and quite stunning even in detail.
We have priced the car very realistically and taken into account that prices/values have fallen in the past couple of years and feel that the price its on offer [less than many restored cars] is very fair, as they say go find another one!
We have taken some detailed pictures of the underside on our ramp to show how original and fantastic this car really is.
